STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Penn State tight end Andrew Quarless was suspended indefinitely Wednesday for an unspecified violation of team rules, becoming the sixth Nittany Lions player suspended in the offseason.

Quarless caught 14 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns in 2007.

Last season, Quarless was suspended by coach Joe Paterno for the first two games following a citation by university police for underage drinking. He will be a junior this fall.

Quarless joins five other Lions who have been at least temporarily removed from the team for infractions since Jan. 25. Defensive tackles Chris Baker and Phil Taylor; linebacker Navorro Bowman; defensive back Knowledge Timmons; and wide receiver Chris Bell all have been suspended.


Baker, Taylor, and Bowman and Timmons all are facing charges stemming from an Oct. 7 on-campus incident.

Bell has not been charged in the incident, though his name was in the criminal complaint filed by police. The Penn State statement announcing Taylor's and Bell's suspensions in early February said only that they were suspended "until their academic situation improves and any off-the-field issues are behind them."

Let's not forget Anthony Scirrotto, the Penn State safety that just reached a plea agreement with the Bellfonte prosecutor for his role in a fight off-campus.

Or star running back Austin Scott, who was suspended in the middle of last season, and is currently awaiting trial on rape and other charges. (Bogus charges, in my opinion, but that's a whole different thread.)

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH THESE FOOTBALL PLAYERS?!?!? I GO TO SCHOOL HERE, AND IT'S JUST DISGRACEFUL! IF IT KEEPS GOING LIKE THIS, WE WON'T HAVE A TEAM BY THE TIME THE SEASON STARTS THIS YEAR!

Holy F***! What the hell is wrong with PSU players? Good find sista. I cant believe all this hooplah. Why cant athletes(pro & college) stay out of trouble? Cant they just all be happy they are breathing and to have all their athletic ability? Ashley, go kick all of their ***es at PSU and tell em' to smarten up. Razz
