Cassell set to sign with Celtics
Sam Cassell, waived last week by the Clippers, plans to sign with the Boston Celtics once he clears waivers, his agent, David Falk, told the Boston Globe. The deadline for a team to claim Cassell is Monday at 6 p.m. ET.
"We've talked to all the teams that expressed an interest in Sam and nothing is going to change," Falk told the newspaper. "He's still going to sign with the Celtics. The only unknown is if some team claims him off waivers. But I consider that to be highly unlikely."
For a team to claim Cassell, it must have room under the salary cap to assume the remaining portion of his $6.15 million salary. It is unlikely that any of those teams would want Cassell.
Cassell would be the third household name to join Boston this year, along with Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.
"I've told Danny that it was amazing how quickly those guys [Allen, Garnett, Paul Pierce] all jelled," Falk said, according to the newspaper. "I mean, this isn't fantasy basketball. And when you saw what needs they might have going forward, the only thing really left to do is to bring in a guy like Sam.
"If you look at this thing like a low-risk stock, Boston is a better fit. The West is much more difficult, while the East looks like a two-horse race."

Great move for the Celtics, adding Cassell and PJ Brown should make them more experienced and only makes Rondo Better

I agree. They upgraded their backcourt and frontcourt in a matter of a few days. Brown is better than Pollard and Cassell give them the pass first PG they are looking for and will serve as a great mentor for Rondo. They also get two vets that have playoff experience which can only help them. Go Celts.
